Does anyone know whether you should go for a more flexible boot or a stiffer boot when using wake binding for kitesurfing or is it just personal preference?

Cheers

Mine are so stiff they feel like casts.

It all comes down to preference, use what ever you feel comfortable with when wakeboarding. If you haven't wakeboarded much lately, then go mid range or stiff support. A stiffer binding will provide better support for ankles and even knees. When choosing bindings keep in mind that many brands of bindings will become 20% to 40% softer after they break in.

Have you tried the system with the Marek's or Murray's?

They have held their support better than any other boot I have owned. It is mainly because what helps keep the rigidity is the binding (system) and it is made out of plastic composites that won't give away like fabric, vinyl, etc. that normal bindings are made out of.

It really comes down to preference. You might find that guys who like a board with lots of flex prefer a boot thats pretty stiff, or vice versa. For instance I know Greg Norman used to prefer a flexible boot (Ronix Relic) cuz he liked stiffer boards. Not sure if he still feels the same but thats just an example of how you can switch it up. I'd say if you're not sure you should start with something in the middle, like the Ronix Ones.

Kiting racks up the riding time compared to boat/cable/winch and you destroy boots pretty quick. They crush at the ankle in their first season if you get any decent time on the water. generally will hold together for another season, but you cant count on much more unless you go with something more rubber or wrap like the old unions. Those things will outlast your knees! Kind of a catch 22 as the nice light, low profile boots like ronix that are just so cush and comfy are also the ones your gonna destroy fastest.

You don't use boots for kitesurfing. They don't work on surf/kitesurf boards.
