To be fair, the houses were never provided by REAL (just arranged by REAL)... they were always donated by Outer Beaches Realty. I'm not sure if the excessive parties may have been an issue or perhaps it was the Hurricane that destroyed the island (and thus the rental business for 4 months of the year)... but in the end, it's Outer Beaches call.

Those houses have a couple thousand in damage every year, I doubt outer beaches can afford something like that after everything that has happened since Irene

well it looks like the SSS invitees got thrown a lil wild card of their own last night. no free housing this year, so you gotta find your own place to stay. ouch! kinda harsh to drop that last minute, i hope people don't back out now

Invitationals are just going to be part of the growing pains of the offshoot we subscribe to. We went through this same stuff when wakeboarding separated itself from the 3 event crowd. They wanted to go a different direction, but had no real funding. Pros cant afford to just make charity appearances at every event all year. You have to make it cost effective. However, when you do, every guy that can go upwind will be there for their 15min. Its like a party with free beer, you get all kinds of uninvited guests!!

Dont worry, as these events grow, get more popular, and companies find out what we do is profitable, they will back it, and fund their rider attendance. Then they can start charging an entry fee to weed out the scrubs rather than making it invitational. These fees create pots for the podium and incents even more particpation.

I just hope everyone can find places to stay. Its pretty busy there in the outer banks this time of year, no? When we stayed there for a week after the SSS a couple years ago it wasn't easy to find a spot close to Real. Gonna be a bit of a last minute scramble for some but i'm sure they'll pull it off. I do agree tho, regardless of whatever politics involved, its the sickest event out there and has done a lot of good for the sport.
