you need to be on the video page directly so if your link was this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9E8iYUo ... ture=g-upl,
shorten it to this inside the youtube tag:

for sure this was a stupid mistake... I got complacent: I've flown this line a lot in different wind conditions and after getting dealt such a nice line at the top I banked too early, too hard and downwind straight at the lamppost instead of coming in over the beach.

got off lightly but my hardest slam in 39years :)

Its a speedwing... this one is an AirDesign Fox13m and I have an 11m too. Basically a small paraglider built for fast descents or ridge soaring in very strong wind (20-30knots)

Pretty intuitive to fly if you have flown kites (especially foils) or got parachute / paraglider experience.

I taught myself with some mates and then did a license course.

It can be, as I demonstrate here, fuckin dangerous and usually its pilot error - either trying to fly when you shouldn't or not flying properly - that causes accidents.

Its been the biggest buzz I've had learning tho and I've flown some cool spots.

Check out speedwings / speedflying / speedriding on youtube or check my favourites section on my channel.

Here's a couple showing how it should be done!

oh and a rig can cost around £1500

Ozone do some speedwings, so do most of the paraglider brands... Niviuk, Gin, etc

There are a full range of sizes from around 8 up to 18m when they are basically mini paragliders.

For very steep downhill skiiing they tend to use 8m wings.

13m is OK to be comfortable landing on your feet much smaller than 11m and you need to be very good at landing or be able to run really fast :)

If you fancy having a crack at speedwings please do it cautiously and if possible get some paraglider knowledge first. We got a foamy r/c glider to understand airflow around terrain and began on the wing by ground handling on a gentle slope and working up gradually to 1000m peaks.

sweet, I also slope r/c gliders so ridge knowledge is good, will check if there's anyone here
that sells them, but ja it looks awesome and a hell of a rush, sand dunes is probably the
best way for me to try it without killing myself

They're gonna need something to do when their knees are shot from riding bindings tho!

Sand dunes will be a good place to learn the basics... just watch out for turbulent wind. If you try towing, make sure you have some means of quick releasing from the tow line... you can get a wing lock out where you basically get flown into the ground unable to steer!
